Job Overview
For those that are interested in being a pure damage dealer that does major damage then look no further than being a Ranger. It's an on going debate as to which
damage dealer does the most damage, Ranger or Black Mage. But rest assure that Ranger is at the top of the list. With the ability to do massive damage from weapon skills and job abilities comes the ability to build TP up at a astonishing rate that most DD can't keep up. A Ranger can pull one or two more extra WS on one fight
than most DD jobs due to their fast TP. This in turn means more damage overall. Another advantages of being a Ranger is that not only do you do massive damage that very few jobs can match but you are also the main puller of the party. Every party need a good damage dealer and puller. With a Ranger, you fit both roles nicely. Your wait time for invites will be short when compare to other damage dealers that may have to wait for hours to get an invite. While it's good to have parties wanting you, the disadvantage is the price tag for being a ranger. Being a ranger isn't cheap as you need to spend money not only on your equip but on your long range weapon ammos like arrows. One of the more expensive jobs to keep around that not every player can accomplish. The cost of the job sort of balance out the fact that you get more invites
than the other DD.
Weapon of choice are archery and marksmanship such as bow and arrows or guns since Ranger have a Rank A with them. However it can be quite expensive to be unloading just ammos all the time so use the next best weaponary, daggers, to melee and build up TP then upload your WS from bow or gun.
Sub Job Combos
Rng/Nin: One of the more common job combos around and very logical. Subbing a ninja means that you can build TP faster by wielding two daggers and have a higher agility boost as well. You won't do as much damage as subbing thief but your fast TP building makes up for that overall. Faster TP means more chance to
use Weapon Skills. With subbing ninja, you also have blink which will help save you from getting hit too much while you are running back from camp after pulling a mob. Blink will also help protect you from getting hit too much when you start to pull hate from a mob due to your massive damage output on them. The downside to
subbing ninja is the fact that it will even cost more to keep Rng/Nin job going than oppose to Rng/whatever. Next to Ranger, Ninja is probably the second most expensive job to have. Combine both jobs and you'd be eating on skidrow most of the time.
Rng/Thf: Beside ninja, thief is the next ideal job. In hindsight you need to have thief as a sub anyways. The only way you'll be able to keep that gil coming
to help your ranger job going is by farming. Whether it's NM hunting or just plain killing mobs to get drops, you need a thief as a sub to help get more drops. In terms of
exp party, with Sneak Attack and Trick Attack combo, a Rng/Thf does the most damage overall of all the job combos. The high evasion boost from thief sub will also
help you evade attacks now and then. With Flee you can zone fast incase you do a bad pull.
Rng/War: This is a last possible choice. While not as practical as subbing thief or ninja, having a war will give you double attack and beserk with a boost in HP.
You can act as a back up provoke but it's not recommended that you even act as back up provoke.
Ranger Job Quest
Locatioin: Windurst Woods
Client: Perih Vashai
Reward: Able to be a Ranger
Requirements: A level 30 job on hand.
Items Needed: Old Tiger Fangs
Change to a level 30 job and head to Windurst Woods at K-7 and talk to Perih
Vashai. She'll ask you to go watch an Old Sabretooth die and retrieve his fang.
Grab a chocobo and go to Sarumogue Champaign at L-10. Stay on your chocobo as
you enter the Old Sabretooth cave. Watch the Old Sabretooth die and then get off
our chocobo and examine it's remains to recieve the old tiger fangs. Don't be
stupid and try and kill the Sabretooth as it will result in nothing. You need
to watch it die. If you get there and you don't see the Old Sabretooth then wait
for a few minutes and it will respawn and die again. This scenario recycle itself
so don't worry. Once you have the old tiger fangs, head back to Windurst Wood
and talk to Perih. Upon doing so you will get a ranger's necklace and the Ranger
job unlock.
