Job Overview
This is probably the most unappealing starting job for new gamers. While a thief is classify as a damage dealer, during the low to mid levels, a thief output damage is very weak when compare to the other damage dealers. Invites to join a party at low to mid levels are slow to none. Don't be surprise if you end up waiting for hours just
to get invited to join a party. Soloing on mobs isn't much better as your weapon skills and attack power do little damage. Rumour has it that even the white mages can outdamage you in lower levels. However looking at the bright side of things, for those that do want to stick it out for the long haul, thieves can become a good damage
dealer post 50. They actually begin to make a mark for themselves as good damage dealer at level 30 once they acquire trick attack. With a combo of sneak attack and
trick attack known as SATA, thieves can do mass damage. They are also useful in the higher level to help give more hate to the main tank by doing SATA off of them.
And with treasure hunter II, thieves are a must have when your party is out camping NMs. Next to a ranger, thieves are used almost exclusively as the puller in an exp
party. This is a job that requires a lot of patience when playing because it will be
hard to level a thief during the early stagtes of the game. Thus it's not for everyone. Most people do however at one point in the game will at least level a thief to level 15
just to have the treasure hunter job trait. Once that's done, everyone that's not a thief will sub a thief so they can go out to farm for items and get drops more easier.
A thief main weapon is dagger due to their rank A proficiency with it. Their second best weapon to use is a range weapon such as a bow due to being a puller. At the
early level when you are leveling solo, you might want to use sword first to make things easier and then switch to dagger in a party.
Sub Job Combos
Thf/Nin: Subbing ninja will be good for you as a good damage dealer and puller. With blink cast on your from your Ninja sub, you can pull a mob and
make your way back to camp without a scratch on you. With dual wield ability, you can build up TP in a much faster pace allowing you to WS and SATA quicker. Blink
can also protect you if you end up getting hate from doing too much damage on a mob.
Thf/Rng: Subbing a ranger serves you well in your duty as the puller in an exp party. Ranger will give you the added bonus to accuracy that you will need
to hit a mob as well as the accuracy needed to use range weapons when pulling a mob to camp. A ranger wide scan ability will also be useful for you to track down a
mob when you're out finding one to lure back to camp.
Thf/War: Subbing a warrior is the most logical choice early on till level 30. Once that's done you can begin to unlock and sub one of the higher advance
jobs like ninja or ranger as your main sub job for thief. Having a warrior as a sub job give a bit more offensive attack power but it really serve as a back up provoker
incase the main tank isn't able to provoke. You probably won't been to be a back up provoker in the later stages of the game.
