Job Overview
The backbone of any party is of course the white mage. Without a white mage
there is no party in the mid to lower levels. At higher levels other jobs subbing
white mage can make decent healers such as a summoner but in the end, you still
would prefer a white mage because they were design for healing and raising your
dead party members. White mages are a rare job class just like their cousins,
the black mages. There aren't enough of them around which makes finding a white
mage to join a party hard. Those that want to become white mages need to be content
of just sitting back and healing party members and curing them of any status ailments.
This can be a boring job and thankless job as well so it's not for everyone. As
a white mage, not only are you needed at exp parties but you're needed at almost
any sort of Linkshell event gathering as well. It takes a very selfless, easygoing,
helpful, and friendly person to be a white mage. People will be asking you for
raises, teleports, powerleveling, and any other stuff that they need help on.
If you're the kind of person that doesn't like to be bother or don't enjoy helping
other people then being a white mage is not for you. Other problems that comes
with being a white mage includes needing lots of money to keep your equip up to
date as well as all your spells. The plus side is that everyone loves you and
need you. You won't have any problems looking for parties as they will be looking
for you.
There are only two types of weapons a White Mage is good at handling, staff and club. Staff is more when you're in a party and casting magic while a club is when you
are out soloing and need to hit a mob.
Sub Job Combos
Whm/Blm: This is the standard combo when using white mage as a main job. Subbing black mage will give you some boost in MP and INT attributes. You also
have some offensive magic spells and transportation spells such as warp to go along with your teleport spells. Other useful black mage spells that help round out your life saving white mage spells are escape and tractor which are very useful when it's time to save party members.
Whm/Smn: This is the second best sub job combo. Subbing summoner will give you a huge boost in MP and the very important auto refresh traits. This in turn will help your party continue the exp grind longer. However without a black mage sub, you lose out on escape, tractor, and the ability to warp yourself home. Of course those might be off set by having an actual black mage in the party. So you might want to sub summoner if you know beforehand that there's already a black mage in
the party.
Whm/Brd: There's not many benefits when subbing bard but it's not a total loss that you should over look it complete. The job traits that you can inherit is resist
silence which is good for any mages. But the idea of subbing bard is more so that you can play Mage's Ballad for some MP refresh. This might be a good alternative if
there is no red mage or bard looking for group around. But for the most part stay away from this sub job combo.
Whm/Rdm: Don't even bother. A red mage is a half black mage and half white mage combine. If you sub a red mage, you won't get half of either jobs, you
get a quarter only and that's not worth it. And there are no real bonus traits as well. The same reason as with a black mage trying to sub a red mage job.
