Ok you ready to start learning the basic battle system of this game? Then let's head out and find out what you should know in terms of the basic of the battle system.
Rule #1
Never forget to cast or recast signet and setting up the proper home point. You don't want to be spending your time gaining exp when your signet all of a sudden wears off on you and you have to run back and get it recast. Next is to set up the proper home point. This is important as you don't want to die and then warp back in an area that is so far that you have to travel such a long way to get back to where you where experiencing at. Signet and home point, remember it before heading out.
Areas to Start Off In
Each city should provide a couple of good leveling zones for players to level from 1 to 11 before heading further out to try and get into a party for the first time. San D'Oria has West/East Ronfaure and Ghelsba Outpost, Bastok has North/South Gustaberg and Palborough Mines, and Windurst have East/West Sarutabaruta and Inner Horutoto Ruins. Each areas are decent places for beginners to get their feet wet.
Difficulty of Mobs
Don't just run out and charging at the first mob you see. Only stupid noobs do that. Learn to check a mob out to see what they con to you as. This game hides the level of a mob so you don't know what level it is but you can check a mob to see what your chances are against a mob in terms of possible outcome of a fight. Here's a list of all the possible difficulties that a mob will con as:
Too Weak To Be Worthwhile: Low level mob that is too weak to give exp point. As stated not worth fighting for exp.
Easy Prey: Low level mob but still gives some small exp. Should be easy to kill.
Decent: Decent level mob that gives a decent amount of exp. Have a good chance of beating.
Even: Even level mob that gives the maximum amount of exp that a solo player usually can get. 100exp per kill. A 50% percent chance of winning in a fight, hence the term Even.
Tough: A mob that is higher in level than you and gives more than 100exp
per kill but your chance of killing it is against you.
Very Tough: A mob that is a few levels higher than you and gives about 200exp per kill but your chance of killing it is none when soloing.
Incredible Tough: Don't waste your time, you'll die in one shot.
As you can see, always check to see what the mob con to you as and decide
on whether or not you can beat it.
What to Kill
For beginners learning the ropes of this game, stick to killing decent and
maybe even prey during the first 6 levels or so. Even then you might just want
to stick to decent and easy prey instead of even prey as without a subjobs, even
prey can even be too difficult for you. Also keep in mind on what jobs you are
playing as. Mages have a much harder time soloing than melee damage dealers so
for mages you might just want to stick to killing easy to decent prey. Better
to kill safely than to constantly die and having to warp back to home point and
run out there.
Learn How to Self Heal
As dumb as this sound, a lot of beginners tend to make the mistake of not reading their instruction manual to learn how to heal. They think that the only way to heal is to run back to moogle house to reset your HP to full. So please remember that you can self heal by kneeling down.
Learning the Functions of 2 Hour Abilities
Each job has a default 2 hour abilities that a player can use in situations where things look grim. Learn about your 2 hour abilities and test it out. Also as you start to level from 1 to 10, you're most likely will pick up other job abilites as well. Get to know your job abilities.
Weapons and Weaponskills
Understanding the proper weapon to use for your job and how to use weapons skill and TP (Tactical Points). Each job has a profiency rating for a particular type of weapon. Use the weapon that the job has the best rating on to maximize your combat skills more. Learn how to use weapon skills and when your TP guage is full.
Macros
Nearing level 10, you might want to start learning how to use macro commands as a way to shorten some of your combat commands to cut down the time it takes you to get those commands into play while in the middle of battles.
Non Aggro or Aggro
As you start to solo mobs in this game, you'll start to understand the term aggro and non aggro. Aggro is a term the players in this game use to define on whether a mob will attack you or not. Aggro is yes, a mob will attack you and non aggro is no, a mob will not attack you unless you attack it. How a mob aggros you is base on a few variables. A mob can aggro by sight, sound, scent, or all of them. Learning which mob aggro to what can help you avoid getting jumped by a mob in the battle zones out there.
Calling for Help or Zoning
Once you get aggro by a mob, there's no way to really get rid of it unless you zone to another area of call for help. Running to zone might work if you are close enough. But if you think you can escape a mob simply by out running it, you are wrong. A mob in this game will chase you all the way to the moon if it has to just to kill you. So running to zone doesn't do you any good unless you think you can make it to zone in time. In most cases if you get jumped by a mob the best course of action is to call for help. If you're in an area close to the city then chances are there are other new players or players around that will be able to come to rescue you. It's your best bet then trying to do that mile long run to zone. Run and calling for help doesn't work because the mob will chase you and the people trying to help will will have to chase down the mob. Better to stay and stand your ground and wait till they come to help you then having your rescuer trying to chasing you down to help you.
Linking and Non Linking Mobs
The mobs in this game are like the players in this game. You have mobs that are soloing out there looking to kill players and you have mobs in groups that like to kill players in groups. LOL. Mobs that are loners are non linking mobs while mobs that are in group of mob friends are linking mobs. When soloing or even in a party, you want to pick on the mobs that are loners, you do not what to pick on a mob that is party of a mob gang. Trust me when I say this, "You do not want to be in a rumble with these guys." So try to understand and be aware of what mobs will link and what mobs will not link.
When does soloing experience changes?
You're probably find that as you approach near level 11, it gets harder and harder to kill a mob that con as even prey and the experience and time it takes to kill one isn't worth it. This is a good indication that it's almost time for you to head out to join your first party. At this point, you'll have to decide when is a good time to start going off to look for a party instead of just continueing to solo on your own. Remember that this game is base mainly on parties and not soloing.
Well I hope all you new players out there have good luck as you're going to need it.
